# About Nester

> Nester is a free guide to buying a house in New Zealand, made to answer your questions before you talk to a bank or real estate agent.

## What you'll find here

The calculators help with the first questions most buyers have, such as how much a bank might lend, what your repayments could be and how much cash you'll need on the day. The step-by-step guides cover everything else, from saving a deposit and using your KiwiSaver to getting a building report and making an offer. All the information is based on New Zealand rules and prices.

## How Nester is paid for

The site is free to use. If you want to talk to someone about a mortgage, KiwiSaver or insurance, let us know and we'll put you in touch with a licensed adviser we trust. If you decide to work with them, they pay us a share of their commission, but you don't pay anything extra. Banks and lenders don't pay us for what we write, and nothing on the site is sponsored.

## What Nester can't do

Nester gives general information. None of it is financial advice, and the site can't tell you if a certain house or loan is right for you. A licensed adviser can help with those choices.

## Who runs it

Jason Dark is a software engineer in Auckland and the founder of Nester. He builds the calculators and writes the guides himself. After buying and renovating his own homes, Jason started Nester to help New Zealand home buyers find clear information and get good advice when they need it.
